| Occupational Hygiene (sometimes known as Industrial Hygiene) is an indispensable
tool when ascertaining whether the health of workers is being compromised.
Occupational Hygienists recognise and evaluate areas or situations
of a workplace that might cause illness, lack of well being or discomfort
to the workers or the community as a whole.
The purpose of the regulations is to eliminate
or minimise peoples exposure to hazards within their workplace.
After recognising and evaluating areas of concern,
it is essential to develop relevant and practical corrective measures
in order to eliminate existing problems.
Some of the corrective measures used are:

Ensure that hazards are designed out when new works are planned.
Remove or substitute less hazardous materials, equipment or substances.
Adopt safer procedures.
Enclosing or isolation the hazard.
Provide effective ventilation.
Establish appropriate administration procedures.
Introducing personal protective equipment.
Training.
