Project:

Assessment of the Hazardous Substances storage and handling procedures. Measurement of personal exposures of the operators to dusts, noise and chemicals.

Our Involvment:  
The Orica Australia Pty Ltd warehousing and distribution facility at Chester Hill handles a wide variety of commercial, agricultural and industrial chemicals, for storage and transhipment. The assessment was multi-staged and included:
  • Review of the site procedures for the storage, labelling and handling of Hazardous Materials to ensure compliance with the specified Orica procedures, the Occupational Health & Safety (Hazardous Substances) Regulation 1996 and the various Workcover Authority NSW and Worksafe Australia, Codes of Practice.
  • Measurement of personal exposures of the storemen and forklift truck drivers to a variety of vapours, chemicals and dusts handled and stored at the facility.

  • Measurement of diesel forklift exhaust gas emissions (CO, CO2, NOx), measured at the exhaust outlet in accordance with the requirements specified in the Department of Mineral Resources Mines Inspection Act 1901 - Guidelines for Diesel and Operator Environment Testing in Underground Coal Mines, MDG No. 29, July 1995.
