| The project
involved the assessment of exposure for various operators, to bitumen
fumes, during the laying of Ground Rubber Crumb Modified Bitumen and
Styrene Butadiene Styrene (SBS) Modified Bitumen. The exposure assessment
involved the collection of breathing zone air samples from the paving
machine drivers, screed board operators and rake hands during the
laying of bitumen based road paving. The samples were collected using
the BHP-EHL sampling heads fitted to Dupont portable sampling pumps
and analysed for a variety of materials including total fume (total
chromatographable matter), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH-
Total Measurable PAH and USEPA Priority PAH's) and the cyclohexane
soluble fraction. The results obtained were compared with Australian
and International standards.
