ASBESTOS REMOVAL / ABATEMENT WORKS

Project:
Removal of limpet asbestos materials from the
Round Mountain Radar Facility and Dubbo Airport Control Tower. Both
of these facilities are essential to the effective operation of
the air traffic control in NSW. This required careful co-ordination
and programming of the works to ensure the facilities remained operational
and had minimal disruption throughout the works.
Our
Involvment:
The facilities were surveyed to identify
the precise locations of the asbestos materials to ensure
accurate and comprehensive documentation of the removal works.
Comprehensive and site specific technical documentation was prepared
for each facility. The technical documentation
outlined the requirements for the following:
- Legislative requirements and codes of practice.
- Preparatory works.
- Location and construction requirements for the containment.
- Engineering controls (e.g. negative air extraction ventilation systems).
- Decontamination systems and general hygiene requirements.
- Personal and respiratory protective equipment.
- General operational requirements.
- Containment inspections and testing.
- Clearance inspections and standards of cleanliness.
- Refurbishment works.
Occupational hygiene project supervision of the works including the following:
- Daily on-site supervision of the works to ensure conformance
with the requirements of the specification,
legislation, codes of practice and standard OH&S practice.
- Inspection and assessment of the decontamination and negative
air systems.
- Inspection and qualitative assessment of the respiratory protective
equipment.
- Asbestos fibre air monitoring.
- Visual clearance inspections and reports.
- Clerk of Works function with respect to the monitoring and reporting
on the progress of the works, processing of contractor's
progress claims etc.
